One Room Challenge-Week 7- Kitchen Remodel
Appliances
Yeah!!! The kitchen appliances are installed, and they look great! Let's talk about appliances.
Next to the cabinets, it's the next biggest expense when remodeling a kitchen, and it's the first thing you need to have selected before you order cabinets.
We went with Berazzoni for the fridge and gas range and Sharp for the drawer microwave. Typically it’s a good idea to use one manufacturer for all your appliances, but the drawer microwave we liked was only made by Sharp.
Refrigerators
Our kitchen is 20 years old, so all the appliances were too. We went back and forth on counter depth vs. built-in refrigerators. The counter depth refrigerators are great; they have a lower profile than the standard fridge and work very well in most layouts. Many of the ones we looked at still went beyond the 24" countertop, not including handles. In the new layout, the fridge opens into the main pass through and is located on the pantry wall. We wanted as much space as possible with minimal interference in the main pass through. we also liked a streamlined look on the pantry wall, so we went with the built-in style fridge.
Range
I have cooked with an electric cooktop for as long as I can remember. Ours had a smooth surface, and it was so easy to keep clean. Since we were eliminating the double ovens, and doing a drawer microwave, a free-standing range was the perfect space-saving solution. After deciding on a free-standing range, now it's time to determine what brand will work for our space. After looking at almost every brand, the Bertazzoni range had a lower profile and didn't protrude out from the countertop as much as some of the other brands, so we decided to go with the 36" dual fuel gas range.
Surprise Design Detail
I have a little surprise I'm working on, or should I say my husband is working, that will be a design detail in the kitchen. I haven't talked about it in previous posts because I wasn't sure it would be completed in time for the final reveal, it was going to be phase II part of the project… I'll give you a hint; it's open metal shelving.
Since all this Covid19 pandemic hit, my husband has had a lot of time off, so it was the perfect time for him to work on a project and to perfect his welding skills. When I was designing my kitchen, it was an idea I had in my head and thought would be a great design detail to the final design, so seeing it come to life is exciting. Now I need to find the perfect accessories to make it shine. Plants for sure and a few cookbooks, not sure what else, so wish me luck. See next week's post for the final reveal and all the details..
