One Room Challenge Week 4-Kitchen Remodel

Repair Floors

This week we are repairing the wood floors in the area where we removed the pantry and fridge walls. We rotated the island 90 degrees, so that area will need to be repaired too.

Here is the area of the floor that needs to be repaired where the wall was removed.

Here are the repaired floors. The floor carpenter ended up removing most of the floors in this area and laid down new. By the time he removed the boards that needed to be laced in, it was more cost-effective to replace them.

Unfortunately, the floors were covered up after the install was finished, so I was unable to get a picture. The cabinets are scheduled to be installed tomorrow morning, so they needed to be covered before the cabinet company arrived.

Cabinet Installation

The cabinets got installed today and I’m loving the new layout; If you remember from week one, I revealed the new layout. The next step is to select the paint color for the main cabinets and the stain color for the island.

In the original design, I had open shelving and decided to change it to something a little more unique; those are scheduled to be installed next week.

Here is where the range will be placed along with the vent hood. The main part of the hood will be painted, and the band at the bottom will be stained to match the floors. We used 3/4” wide x 1/2” wood slates and spaced them 1/2” apart.
